Last weekend saw two of our team, Matt and Shaun Whiter swap their usual routines for running trainers as they took on the Silverstone Half Marathon in support of IAM RoadSmart. Cold weather, a famous race track and a very big message – it was a weekend none of us will forget.
For Shaun, this run meant far more than clocking up 13.1 miles. After being hit by a dangerous driver and left for dead, Shaun lost both of his legs and is now a double amputee. Instead of letting that moment define him, Shaun has done something truly inspiring by turning his experience into a force for good. Today, Shaun travels the country delivering powerful road safety sessions, sharing his story with clubs and organisations to encourage safer decisions behind the wheel.
Ahead of race day, Shaun delivered one of his impactful sessions at Northampton Town Football Club, speaking to their academy players. The response was incredible. The young players were fully engaged throughout, and it wasn’t just them who felt the impact. Staff and press in the room admitted it made them reflect on their own driving habits and even their choices as parents. A clear sign that Shaun’s message truly lands. The session also caught wider attention, with ITV on hand to capture the story and help spread the road safety message even further.
Sunday brought chilly temperatures but plenty of determination as Matt and Shaun took to the iconic Silverstone circuit. Running a half marathon is an achievement in itself but doing it around one of the world’s most famous race tracks makes it even more special. Both crossed the finish line having done themselves (and everyone supporting them) incredibly proud. ITV were there again to document the run and continue sharing the story far beyond the track.

This run was also completed in memory of Arron and Ben Peak, who sadly lost their lives in a road traffic accident in 2008 aged just 8 and 10 while travelling to Silverstone. In a deeply touching moment, their mum Amanda gave Matt and Shaun her blessing to run in memory of her boys. She even attended the event on Sunday with her daughter to support them and help share Arron and Ben’s story. It was an emotional reminder of exactly why road safety matters.
We’re incredibly proud of Matt and Shaun, not just for braving the cold and completing the half marathon, but for everything this run represents. From raising awareness and starting conversations to honouring lives and encouraging safer roads, this was about so much more than running.
An amazing effort for an amazing cause.
