Wednesday was a brilliant day for Shaun Whiter, who was invited onto the Hawksbee & Jacobs show on talkSPORT alongside Matt Himsworth to talk about the important work they’re doing through B5 Consultancy.
They spoke about going into football academies and clubs to educate young players on the dangers of driving and the real life consequences that can come from one bad decision behind the wheel.
A big talking point was how many young footballers get their first professional contract and instantly go out and buy high performance sports cars, despite only recently passing their driving test. It’s a real problem, and Shaun and Matt are passionate about tackling it head on through the sessions they deliver.
Their presentations are known for having a huge impact on players, especially because of the way Shaun tells his story. As discussed on the show, Shaun starts the session sitting behind a table so the players can’t see his legs. Then comes the big reveal, when he “bum shuffles” out from behind the table and the room suddenly realises for the first time that he’s an amputee. It’s a moment that really hits home and makes people stop and think.
Getting the chance to share this message on a platform like talkSPORT was really special. The more opportunities there are to spread awareness and start these conversations, the better. Most importantly, it’s about making a difference and helping young people understand that one decision can change a life forever. A great day all round and another big step in spreading the message.
